Francois Mostert: Digital Artist, Illustrator, Creator

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawing and imagining new ideas, caricatures and objects. I would often dream of magical places where great adventure lie waiting, and sometimes, if I could remember the dream, I would illustrate them.

In 1999 I made the move to Cape Town, mostly because it is the place where I feel the most inspired and creative, looking for a way to express my creativity and making a career by doing what I love.

In 2001 I joined a small comic start-up called STRIKA Entertainment, just as they were preparing their first publication; a little soccer themed comic called SUPA STRIKAS. This comic, as well as many others we started afterwards, went on to become one of the highest circulation comic magazines in the world, with well over a million issues distributed in over 20 countries worldwide. I parted with STRIKA at the end of 2011 and now freelance independently.​

I have twelve years working experience in the comic book industry but also freelanced in illustration, retouching, writing, original art, DTP and training on Adobe Creative Suite.

I have acquired skills over the years that translate into multiple disciplines. As an Adobe Photoshop expert, I naturally had to try my hand at photo manipulation and retouching, something I found to be a natural evolution on the original art I was accustomed to doing. It gives me the greatest pleasure to see a picture blossom in front of my eyes, getting molded and shaped, colored and corrected until it reaches its full potential...
